Life is Relationships – Build The Right Connections Around You

When you come to realize that thoughts decide your future, what you allow your mind to think about and dwell on will shape your personal destiny. By gaining clarity on what we really believe about the world, we can then take effective action to change our results by taking responsibility for what we choose to think. Positive or Benevolent World View This group is one that lives with the view that the world is perfect the way it is, in a constant state of growth and evolution towards a better state of being. Instead of seeing problems and injustice, they see opportunities to serve and help other people. Instead of believing that they cannot do anything, they take responsibility for themselves, their thoughts and their actions. When they are wronged by others, they understand that no one is perfect and that each and everyone of us are trying to find our own way to a better life. They may not stand for being taken advantage off, but they are willing to forgive the other person and move on with their own life. Negative World View This group of people tends to see problems, injustice and oppression everywhere. They see guilty and evil people everywhere. Instead or opportunity and hope, this group of people sees limitations and unfairness. This group, with a negative world view, tend to be very critical and tends to live life under a cloud of fear and darkness. This group tends to blame any and everyone else for the state of the world, their personal lives, and everything bad that happens. What Does This Have Got To Do With You? While there are people who fall into both extremes, most of us live somewhere near the middle with tendencies to lean towards either the dark or the light side. What you believe about life affects everything you do. It also shapes the person you are and determines what you contribute to this world through your very existence. Taking a closer look at both sides of the story. Whether the world is coming to an end, whether there is injustice and problems everywhere, the fact is that complaining and bitching about it isn’t going to change it. In fact, you would be adding more negativity to the mess. Just imagine a whole group of people sitting together bitching about the entire world coming to an end, bitching about how horrible the world is, and just plain out trying to drag everyone else into their view of the world so they can be one big mess of negative people bitching about everything. By their actions and results they produce, you can probably tell that nothing good is going to come out of it. In fact, if allowed to grow, more and more people would get sucked in and the world may very well become what they have bitched it to be. Result = More Negativity, Hope Killer and Ineffectiveness On the other hand, if you choose to be in a group of people who understands that while there are problems in life, there are places where injustice still occurs, and there are people who do abuse their power to keep others down, you have the personal power and ability to take charge of your own life. By taking responsibility for your thoughts and actions, you bring as much good into the world as you can. You meet each problem with the faith that you can and will do whatever it takes to overcome it. You take responsibility for your life and actions, knowing that what you do does have an immediate impact on you and perhaps even the people around you. The thing is, even if everything the negative group of people bitched about were true, spreading the negativity isn’t going to make the situation any better. By taking responsibility for yourself and what happens to you, you become more positive because you realize that you do have some degree of control over what happens to you. You start to see possibilities, and start to see the world in more benevolent terms. You become a happier and more effective person because you have taken charge of your life. Result = Feeling Happier, Taking Action To Create A Better Life, Increased Effectiveness What there is to realize about positive or negative world views isn’t about who is right or wrong. It is about which is more effective for you to achieve your goals and live a happier life. By adopting the right mindset and perspective on life, you can create your own destiny.

If you are wondering where all the posts starting from 2007 went, they’re gone. Kaput. Finished. Erased from the history and archives of Darbright.com. I’m starting Darbright.com from the zero line. Why I’m Starting All Over From The Zero-Line The simple reason is I was messing around with an FTP program that corrupted the files on Darbright.com. It wasn’t the fault of the program. I was simply figuring out how to use the program and entered the wrong settings. Talk about “ Let’s click Enter and see what happens.. ” :-p Of course, I could always upload my backup files to restore the old blog posts. But I figured that since I’m going through a “zero-based thinking” review of my life, I might as well start Darbright.com from the ground up. Zero-Based Thinking for Personal Growth What is zero-based thinking? It’s one of the concepts in creating a personal strategic plan for your life, where you essentially call a time-out on your life and work to examine your current activities. Once you have a list of your current activities, imagine yourself starting all over again. Ask yourself, “ Knowing what I know now, is there anything in my life that I would not get into if I had to do it all over again ?”. Why? One of the biggest problems that many people face is attempting to make something work that you wouldn’t even have started with, knowing what you know now. If something isn’t working for you, struggling and forcing yourself to make it work can either be seen as a virtue to triumph over adversity, or simply sheer stupidity. It’s not as if you didn’t learn the lessons and gained from the experience, but knowing what you know now, would you even start it all over again? Would you continue to invest time, money and emotional energy into a path that just isn’t working out for you? If you were the CEO of Inc, would you continue pursuing a path of action that leads nowhere or would you revise your strategy for your life? If you were the CEO of Inc, would you continue with a service or product line that is costing you resources with low or even negative ROEI ( Return on Energy Invested )? Or would you just kill it and go with something that has potential for greater results instead? Knowing When To Persevere, Knowing When To Quit Of course, there are times when you have to stick it through the tough times to get out on the other side. In many cases, the saying “ It’s the darkest before dawn ” holds true. Sticking through the tough times can lead you to incredible results when they blow over and you are still there. And at other times, it’s knowing when to quit a pursuit that just isn’t going to succeed so you can invest your resources elsewhere. Many successful people have failed numerous times before they hit their jackpot. They knew when to quit when things weren’t going to work out and try their hand at something else instead. So how do you know when to do what? In all honesty, I don’t have a crystal ball to tell me the future. As far as I know, no one has it. We can predict or anticipate the likelihood of an outcome, but everything is still open to change based on the decisions and actions that we take today. I’d have to say, it’s part and parcel of getting to know yourself, going through the experiences of life, and mostly maturity. It also helps when you have good people around you to advise you, or if you have gained enough insight and knowledge to realize that you are on the wrong path. It can really seem overwhelming to realize that your life truly and only rests in your hands, but the truth is no one can decide your life for you. They can only share their experiences, thoughts and perspectives on your situation. Take their perspectives into consideration, keep what is relevant, and dump out the rest. Ultimately, you have to take stock of what you are good at, what activities you most enjoy, and where you are currently in your life. Based on everything that you know, should you continue on your current path or take action that will make a major difference in your life? The responsibility for your life will always be yours, no matter how much you try to give it away. And that’s good.

This is lesson 5 of the 7 lessons shared with me. Lesson 5 – Peace That Comes From A Place of Infinite Power Reflect on the power of the silent river that runs deep and strong. As you reach into the depths of your soul, you will find your connection to the source of all that is. Many great men and women spend much time in prayer and meditation to find that connection that links them to a higher power. When you live and act from a place that is larger than who you are, you will be amazed at how great you can truly be. When you find that source of power that lies within , you become a part of the deepest rivers that flow through life. You become one with Source and your peace comes from a place that many people seek but few find. You receive a peace that is unshakable and it permeates through your soul. It is hard to describe this sense of transcendence. To truly understand it, you will have to experience it for yourself. By reaching into this place of inner power, you become part of all that is eternal. Your soul rests in a place that lies outside of time. When you realize that you will still be around when all that takes place in human society is gone, the things of this world start to fall into their real place of priorities and importance. Physical events are important for what they can do now to affect the environment. But they will pass away sooner or later. It is merely because as a physical being, you measure your life in short bursts of existence in an eternal journey across the face of the universe. If you realized that you live forever as a soul, you will start to perceive the events that happen in your life from the perspective of the infinite and not just as a short lived entity. When you are seated in the depth of Source Energy, a strength and power will course through your soul to give you a peace that is more powerful than the world that exists outside of you. All that happens in the world of men and animals are like the little waves that trouble the surface of the great deep ocean. They can roar, shake and thunder, but eventually they must merge back with the ocean of life. But for you who is resting in the spark of creation, all is as it should be in the depth of the Eternal. If you truly want peace that surpasses the understanding of this world, seek the Heart of the Eternal. Seek the truth that lies in the depth and breadth of Source. Heaven and earth can be shaken, but when you are one who stands on the foundations of eternity, all these things are like the passing of the seasons. Here for today and gone tomorrow. When you experience the infinite eternal, you will experience a peace that places you outside the flow of time. And this is a peace that will surpass all human understanding. This concludes the 5th of the 7 lessons shared with me.

This is lesson 4 of the 7 lessons shared with me. The Fourth Lesson – Wealth and Abundance Wealth and Abundance. All of us in modern day society want more wealth and abundance in our lives. The most important thing about wealth and abundance that people tend to overlook is money gives choice. Money buys you time. And that is all money really does. In and of itself, it is virtually worthless. You may use money to boost your self-esteem through prestige. You may use money to push others down. You may even use money to get your way. But when you can look to the heart of the matter, money buys you time to do the things you truly love and that make your life joyful, purposeful and filled with meaning. Everyone wants to be happy, healthy and to do the things they love to do . No one truly enjoys their life when they are doing something they hate just for the sake of money. They pursue money in the dream that one day, with enough money, they can finally do what they want to do. Yet along the way, many lose sight of the reason why they pursued money in the first place. Concerns of society start to replace people’s dreams. The race to live in a bigger house than your neighbor, to drive a nicer car than the next guy, to have more “bling” on your fingers, all these things are fine and dandy. They only become an issue to your spiritual growth when they are the only things that you pursue in life. However, for the most part people rarely have enough to live the life they want. This lesson is to help address this fundamental problem of creating and enjoying more wealth and abundance in your life. Enjoying More Wealth and Abundance The truth is, wealth and abundance are already flowing around you all the time. They are in constant flow and have always been there. The thing you need to do is to accept that this wealth and abundance is meant for you. When you stop separating yourself from all that is good, wealth and abundance will naturally flow into your life through you and for you. Wealth and abundance is more than just cash or material possessions. It encompasses the ability to enjoy that which you have in your possession. What good is all the money in the world if you cannot enjoy a single dollar of it? Or if you have a hundred houses in 50 countries around the world, but not one of them is a home that is filled with joy and laughter? Wealth and abundance refers to all these things and more. Many people seek to hold on to their wealth in the hope that they can gather more. While you are to be a good steward of your wealth, that is all that you will ever be. You cannot take these material possessions into the world after this. You are to enjoy what you have while taking responsibility for the use of your wealth. Wealth and abundance is meant to be used . When shared through the right forms, it creates even more wealth and abundance. You know that energy cannot be destroyed, merely transformed into a different form. And that is the same with money. The question is what form are you transforming your money into? What energies are you creating with the use of your wealth? When you use your wealth to create more wealth, more wealth flows to you. When you use your wealth to create scarcity, you enjoy less and less of the wealth that you have. You need more just to experience the same levels of thrill and joy. Have you noticed how some people need bigger material possessions the more money they have? What they have had is no longer enough to satisfy them, and they are constantly seeking for that next monetary fix to give them a sense of joy and a life that is lived. Yet when you use the wealth you have to improve the lives of those in need of it, each dollar you spend increases in the joy of life it brings to you. When you offer food to the hungry, that simple loaf of bread you eat becomes more fulfilling than the most delicious pastry in the world. It is also true that you need a basic level of material comforts to sustain yourself. But once you have that, what do you do with the surplus? Do you create more wealth with it? Your ability to create wealth with your surplus determines how much more flows back to you. The use of your wealth carries responsibility. You are neither to throw it away or spend it recklessly, nor are you to hoard it until all you are is a miser. When you can find ways to invest your money to create more wealth, more wealth is available for you. Wealth and abundance are an energy that needs to flow in order to work. Do not seek to hold on to perceived wealth and abundance, because you are not a physical being. You are a spiritual being, and thus your real riches lie in the spiritual planes of existence. To you, physical wealth and abundance will be a fleeting thing. Here to be used in this lifetime and of no relevance or value to you when you have moved on to the next. The Most Basic of Things To Enjoy More Wealth If you truly wish to experience wealth and abundance that flows beyond what you could ever believe, then you must accept that you are worthy to receive it. And after receiving it, to allow this river to continue on its journey. You are, after all, only a steward of the physical riches that come to you on this plane. Wealth cannot come to you and be part of your life if you do not accept it. It is like a gift that is already given and is merely waiting for you to accept it. When you accept that you are worthy of being wealthy, you will receive it.

This is the third of the 7 lessons shared with me. The Third Lesson – Intelligence and Discernment Intelligence and Discernment. Intelligence is commonly associated with people we think are “smart” and who have a lot of information at their fingertips. It is something many people value. The more intelligent you are, the “better” you are thought to be. However, what is closer to the truth? Intelligence without discernment is foolish. By itself, intelligence can be used for good or evil. It has no emotions, it has no feelings, it has no heart. The fact is, intelligence is an ability like any other. Intelligence is neither better or worse than the ability of a keen ear to hear the musical notes on a flute. Neither is it better or worse than the ability to act with faith and courage. Intelligence is not to be admired. Neither is it to be disdained. It is merely a tool that can be used to bring about good or one that brings about destruction. Intelligence has to be blended with discernment. The ability to take the knowledge that one has and to discern what the truth is. When all the pieces of the puzzle are put together, the bigger picture can be seen, but it takes intuition and discernment to correctly interpret what that picture means. If you have been to a museum, you will have realized that the same picture can be interpreted in many ways depending on your mood, the environment or even by the people you are with. Each time you look at a painting, the more you observe it the more different aspects start to become obvious to you. A trained eye sees more than one that is untutored. Discernment is what brings the cutting edge to the sword of intellect. Discernment is the ability to cut through the fluff to the heart of the matter. To see the truth from the facts, and not be swayed by what you want to see. The heart and character of the wielder of intelligence is what brings consciousness to the use of intellect. It is what allows one to discern what is for the highest good of everyone involved. Intelligence is an ability like any other. It can be trained, enhanced and developed with the right exercises and discipline. To increase your intelligence, increase your exposure and amount of information you have. The more information you have, the more intelligent you seem. Regardless of whatever level of intelligence you currently possess, seek wisdom and discernment. For it is wisdom to discern which is far more important than intelligence itself. With discernment, you will know what information to study and which to put away. With discernment, another will fail to overwhelm you with facts and information when you cut through all the clutter to see into the heart of the matter. With discernment, you will be far wiser than the most intelligent of men. For you will be the wielder of the knowledge you have, while the man without discernment becomes the tool of intelligence. Therefore, seek wisdom and discernment together with intelligence. Not just intelligence alone. This concludes the third of the lessons that was shared with me.

This is the second of the 7 lessons that were shared with me. The Second Lesson – Love With Compassion Love with compassion. Without love, the entire world will fall into shambles as everyone steps over the other to get what they desire. Without love, brother will kill brother, sister will betray sister. Sons and daughters will turn on their parents. Fathers and mothers will destroy their children. Love is what holds the world together. Conditional Love What all of us are more familiar with is conditional love. It can also be described as transactional affection, where I love you because you do something for me. Or I’ll do something for you so that you’ll find me valuable and love me because you can’t live without me. When you exist on the physical plane and become detached from your soul, this may be the highest form of emotional energy that you can access. What I am going to share next may shake some of your beliefs and perceptions about love (at least what most people perceive to be love). As long as there is something for something, such love will always be temporary. To love expecting nothing in return, except for that which is for the highest good of that whom you love, is to love completely and totally. But don’t be mistaken. Unconditional love isn’t a lovey dovey feeling. It comes with clear insight, understanding, and sometimes much sorrow. Sorrow because you know what the other person has to experience for their highest good even though you may want to intervene. Sorrow sometimes at the personal loss that you must endure because of your love for someone else. Loving with compassion brings much needed light and strength to this world. To offer help when required, to love when needed, and to love knowing that those you love may never truly understand the extent to which you care for them. At times when the things you do seem contrary to what might be “love”, keeping your eyes on the higher path of life will help to get you through those times when those you love may seem to spit on you and reject you. When you discipline a child to keep them off the path of destruction, their anger and hate for that moment can be hurtful. But when you have kept a child off that path of destruction, in their later years they will come to appreciate all the things that you have done for their own good. Loving with compassion is not a blinded love. Blind love is can be destructive not only to the parties involved but also creates collateral damage that will need to be repaired once the passions are spent. While the world celebrates strong emotional passions, it is only because it reminds them of what they are missing in the true joys of life. Strong passions when not tempered with discernment can lead one to great heights as well as plunge you into the depths of despair. Strong emotional passions are celebrated, needed even, because so many people have empty spaces within them begging to be filled with something.. Anything… Strong energies can be addictive when one has nothing else to bring them alive. But when you are in constant touch with Source, its energies and life flow through your soul and even the quietest of moments can sing with joy to your heart . To you, then, you will realize that strong passions unchecked can seem like the tsunamis that rage and destroy all in their path without thought. Loving with Compassion Loving with compassion adds subtleties to the energy of love. Compassion allows one to perceive the lack in another person’s experience of life and to help fill that place with whatever you have available. When you love with compassion, you can touch the heart and soul of another spiritual being waiting to be be awakened by your touch of light. It wakes them up to higher dimensions that exists beyond the surface of every day reality. To love totally, completely and unconditionally is the highest energy available in this reality. It can be in a big way, or in small touches, but to love unconditionally is enlightenment in motion . For in your actions of unconditional love, you lighten the life of those you touch and spark off the consciousness of greater things in the universe. And this concludes the second of lessons that was shared with me.

    Excerpt from:

This is the first of the 7 lessons that I received from my spiritual friends. It talks about strength, what we perceive it to be and what we can (or should) do with our strength. While I emphasize certain points on the subtleties of what I picked up, I assure you that writing about it is much easier than living it. As I have shared, I have benefited from the insights that I have gained. And perhaps you might too. The finer points are not always obvious, but as I gain more experience over the years, I realize that I will probably never grasp the true extent of what has been shared with me in all its infinite complexities and interpretations. For whatever it is worth, perhaps you might find something in this message that you can apply to your own situation. And may it bring you out stronger and better on the other side. The First Lesson – Strength Tempered with Kindness Strength. You must be strong. Yet it is a strength that must be tempered with kindness. While you go about your daily affairs and make your way in this world, strength is required to fulfill the tasks that you have set out to do. Forces and elements of the environment are always pushing and pulling. Without strength to hold on to your path, you would be pulled in many different directions and scattered like dust to the wind. Yet when you are strong, you will know when to pull and when to push. To yield when necessary, and to push when it is required. Strength that is inflexible and rigid can be broken. That kind of strength is brittle and when is met with a greater force, it breaks. Yet when you know how to bend with the wind like the bamboo, even the harshest of conditions will not break you. Yes, they might seem to be winning the battle, but a battle won is not a war lost. When your strength is flexible , it can take much punishment and bend accordingly. The moment this external pressure is released, it creates a whiplash effect as your strength unwinds itself, where the force returned is multiplied a thousand times. The ability to snap back when required creates an impact that can stun even the biggest of giants. It allows you to move with power into spaces of opportunity when the storm weakens, as everyone around you will be scattered and your opponent exhausted. Yet strength without kindness is harsh. It can easily destroy the softest of webs when all you need is a gentle whisper. Kindness will show you how much and what type of strength to use. Kindness is the consciousness that tempers the power and use of your strength. Without kindness in the use of your strength, you would be like a tornado that destroys all in its path. When you return, you find that all you have fought to secure would also be destroyed. There would be nothing left for you. Strength with kindness will open your eyes to the world around you. It makes you reflect on your decisions and actions. The moments when you are in power, it teaches you what you ought to do for the highest good of everyone involved. It is not always easy to temper your strength with kindness. After all, you are the sum of your thoughts, decisions, actions, experiences and more. Sometimes, you may just want to lash out. At other times, you may just want to glory in your own power. Yet it will be kindness that shows you the way out to a higher path. When you are strong, temper the use of your power with kindness. When you are weak, you can rest in the hope that those you have helped along the way may return the kindness that you have done them. For this is the Golden Rule… do unto others what you would have others do unto you. And this concludes the first of the 7 lessons. May you use it wisely and well.

In the course of deciding what to do, I sometimes talk to my spiritual friends for whatever guidance they might have. It’s not always easy to apply what they share to life but regardless, their messages always have tremendous value and impact on my way of thinking. Of course, these messages were meant for me. But since I gained so much insight and benefit from them, I asked for permission to share them with you. Some of these messages might resonate with who you are now. Some of them may be triggered when you experience certain events later on in your journey. The 7 Lessons For Living An Awesome Life I’ll go through them part by part in a series of articles. Each lesson came from one spiritual friend imbued with its own type of subtle resonances. While the actual lessons shared with me were quite short in nature, I’ll attempt to elaborate on them for greater insight and clarity. I hope I do the message justice, since the only tools available are just words. These are the 7 Lessons in parts: To live these lessons is not easy. Yet I find them an interesting blend of spirituality mixed with practicality. You might really enjoy them or you may just think them to be hogwash.
